Canton Gets Cash For Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Three public charging stations will be installed by next summer, with funding for the projects announced this month.

CANTON, CT — Next year, folks with electric vehicles will have a place to charge up in Canton after local officials this week announced federal/state funding to install charging stations in town.

In actuality, the charging stations are being funded with a combination of federal and town funds, with Canton planning to install three electric vehicle charging stations.

There will be one station each at the Cherry Brook Primary School parking lot (4 Barbourtown Road, Collinsville), the Canton Public Works Department (50 River Road, Collinsville), and at the Mills Pond Pool House, (14 E. Hill Road).

The own was recently notified it will receive up to $40,000 of Federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality (CMAQ) program funds from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The funding will help offset eligible costs associated with electric vehicle charging station installation.

Canton was one of 10 towns awarded the grant.

The total cost is anticipated to be $50,000, including equipment, and the town will provide 20 percent of the total cost.

Charging station installation is expected to start in February 2025, with construction done by the summer.
