Canton Girls Returning to Class S Basketball Finals
The Warriors defeated Bolton Monday night to advance to the Class S championship game against Thomaston for the second straight season.
Three teams from the greater Hartford area advanced in high school state tournament basketball competition Monday, while two others came up short in their bid for a title.
Just one girls team from the region is still alive: Canton. The third-seeded Warriors avenged a regular season defeat at the hands of No. 2 Bolton by upsetting the Bulldogs, 43-34 to advance to the Class S championship game for the second straight season.
Canton will play either Saturday or Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Arena against top-seeded Thomaston. Last year, Thomaston nipped the Warriors, 52-50 in the championship tilt.

In Class LL boys action, Simsbury came up on the short end of a 71-38 decision to fourth-seeded Weaver.
Northwest Catholic, the number 10 seed in Class M boys, crunched No. 15 Abbott Tech by a 56-35 count to reach the semifinals. The Indians will take on sixth-seeded Notre Dame-Fairfield at Wilby High School in Waterbury Wednesday at 7 p.m.

No. 4 Bloomfield also advanced to the Class M semifinals by posting a 65-51 win over No. 12 Bacon Academy. The Warhawks will tangle with top-seeded Sacred Heart Wednesday at 7 p.m. at New Britain High School. On Monday, Sacred Heart pounded No. 8 Granby Memorial, 93-36, to reach the semifinals.
