Canton Hiking Trail Gets State Funds For Refurb
The state recently announced that the Farmington River Trail in Canton will receive $223,478 for safety upgrades.
CANTON, CT — Two local lawmakers recently announced the awarding of grant funding that will make a well-used hiking trail in Canton that much safer.
State Sen. Lisa Seminara, R-Avon, and state Rep. Elena Kavros DeGraw, D-Avon, applauded the announcement of a $223,478 state grant to make safety connections to the Farmington River Rail Trail.
“This funding will make the trail safer and more accessible for area residents to enjoy,” Seminara said. “We are thankful that the state recognizes what a wonderful recreational resource this is and how it contributes to our quality of life. This is a wise investment.”

“The Governor and the Connecticut Department of Transportation continue to prioritize the safety of our pedestrians and cyclists through grants like the one Canton received,” Kavros DeGraw said. “Our Farmington River Rail Trail is utilized by thousands of people in the Farmington Valley, and maintaining and improving these outdoor recreation areas benefits people across the state.”
The grant was awarded by the Connecticut Department of Transportation under the state-funded Community Connectivity Grant Program.
