Canton Lacrosse Qualifies for Girls Class S Final

Three teams from north-central Connecticut qualified Tuesday for state title games this weekend, including an all-NCCC lacrosse final.

Six semifinal state tournament games played Tuesday involved teams from Patch towns in north-central Connecticut, with three emerging victorious.

An all-North Central Connecticut Conference final is looming Saturday in Class S girls lacrosse. Fourth-seeded Canton upset top-ranked Old Lyme, 15-11, while No. 3 Somers came from behind to defeat No. 15 St. Joseph, 12-10.

The two will meet Saturday at Jonathan Law High School in Milford at a time to be determined. The Class L and Class M finals will also be held there that day.

In Class M boys volleyball, top-seeded South Windsor overcame a first-game loss to defeat No. 5 Masuk, 3-1. Game scores were 20-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20.

The Bobcats will meet second-seeded Joel Barlow for the championship Thursday at 5 p.m., at a site to be determined.

Area teams coming up on the short end in Tuesday's semifinals were Simsbury baseball, Avon baseball and Newington boys volleyball.
