Canton Land Trust to Acquire 12.5 Acres of Land Through State Grant
The wooded land is in the northwest corner of town and will add to the Canton Land Conversation Trust area.

The Canton Land Trust will benefit from a $17,500 state grant to acquire 12.5 acres of land.
The land located in the northwest quadrant of Canton is undeveloped and contains many varieties of trees. It is a nesting habitat for interior forest bird species and other wildlife, according to a press release from Gov. Dannel Malloy’s office.
It will add to the adjacent Canton Land Conservation Trust area, which totals 300 acres.

The grant comes through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition program administered by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The state’s goal is to protect 673,210 acres of land by 2023 and is currently at more than 73 percent of its goal.
“Conserving land is an important investment in our future, and today’s grants move us closer to meeting our goal of protecting 21 percent of Connecticut’s land as permanently protected open space,” Governor Malloy said in a release. “Preservation projects such as these are fundamental to maintaining our high-quality of life, protecting the immense natural beauty of our state, and making Connecticut a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
