Canton Leader: Budget Season Not Like 'Mission Impossible,' But Important
Canton's top three boards will meet Monday, Oct. 16, to discuss spending challenges and needs next year.

CANTON, CT — It may be hard to think about the fiscal year for 2024-25 as the current year isn't even halfway done, but the Town of Canton already is.
On Monday, Oct. 16, the town's top three boards — the boards of selectmen, finance and education — will meet at the Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave., at 6 p.m. to talk spending at the so-called "tri-board" meeting.
Canton First Selectman Robert Bessel discussed the meeting during his regular report to residents recently.

"Its purpose is to discuss the financial pressures we will face in developing the 2024-25 budget," wrote Bessel. "This is a public meeting. You are welcome to participate in the public comment section and to listen to briefings from the three elected boards."
Items up for discussion, according to Bessel, are tax rates, affordability, grand list growth, interest rates, revaluation, grants, and other long-range planning issues.

"I can’t promise the discussion will be as exciting as 'Mission Impossible,' but it will be meaningful because it’s about Canton’s future," Bessel said.
The town even released a diagram outlining the budget process for the rest of this year into next year.
