Canton Native Named a Northeast Conference Scholar Athlete

Sarah Benedetti just finished her basketball career at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.

Canton High School graduate Sarah Benedetti has been named a winter Scholar Athlete for the Northeast Conference, according to the Collinsville Press.

Benedetti plays basketball for St. Francis College in Brooklyn and was one of six people given the award by the conference.

To receive the award, an athlete must have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

She had a great senior season, ending up 11th in the NEC in scoring with 14.2 ppg and third in the conference with 2.3 three-pointers per game. She ended her collegiate career with 1,379 points and a school record 280 three-pointers.

Benedetti was also named the NEC Tournament Most Valuable Player after she led her team to the school’s first league championship.
