Canton Needs Firefighter Volunteers To Fill Out Ranks

CANTON, CT — The Town of Canton is seeking firefighters, emergency medical technician and fre police volunteers to maintain the quality of service it has provided since 1996.

Monday, the town issued a letter to the community seeking help and outlining some of the benefits of volunteering for the Town of Canton Fire & EMS Services Department.

According to the department, the amount of calls the past decade has increased more than 60 percent, closing out the last year with 1,763 calls for service to tend to emergencies, fires and accidents.

There are benefits to being a volunteer, including: tax abatements; free training; use of state-of-the-art apparatus; and family passes for local town services such as parks and the transfer station, among other benefits.

For those who cannot volunteer, the town is also asking if folks can make financial donations to the department.
