Canton Obituary: Grace La Gier, 93

Condolences to her family and friends.

Grace (Mullarkey) La Gier, 93, wife of the late Robert H. La Gier, died Monday, May 16, 2016 at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton.

She was born in New Bedford, MA, moving to West Hartford where she lived until she married Robert, and were residents of Simsbury for 65 years. Grace was a graduate of the American School for the Deaf (ASD) in West Hartford, she met Robert, her husband of 65 years. She enjoyed her knitting, sewing, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Paul La Gier and wife Brenda of Barkhamsted, James La Gier and wife Donna of Arlington, VA, Karen Mucha and husband Jack of Gilbert, SC and Joan Sikorski and husband Henry of East Granby; her son-in-law, Ralph Vogt of Venice, FL; her brother, James Mullarkey and his wife Pat of Williamsburg, VA; her sister, Theresa Dupuis of Pasadena, CA; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Vogt, her sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and George Pinzel and her brother-in-law, Henry Dupuis.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff at Cherry Brook Health Care Center, where she was a resident for 3 years, and to the McLean Hospice Care Team for the loving care they provided, making her as comfortable as possible.

Private burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery.
