(Blackden) Shanahan, a long-time resident of the Canton and Torrington area, died Sunday the 4th of June, 2017 at Valerie Manor Nursing Home in Torrington.Joy was born in 1929 in Presque Isle ME, where she lived before moving to CT as a young adult. Joy worked for 30 years at the Aetna in Hartford before taking early retirement at age 58 and then continued to work for the Southington Housing Authority before fully retiring in 1994 at age 65.Joy loved good food and socializing, enjoyed reading, playing cards, day trips, volunteering at her local church and spending time with the many friends who were close to her. She had a zest for making you laugh and an infectious smile.She is survived by her extended family in NY, ME and CT.A graveside service will be held June 14th at 11am in Greenwood Cemetery, Avon.
