Canton Obituary: Stephen Guerriero, 74

Condolences to his family and friends.

Stephen Guerriero, 74, of Burlington, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Ann (Tracy) Guerriero for 49 years.

Born in Bristol on November 4, 1942, he was the youngest of five children of the late Stefano and Angelina (Ferro) Guerriero. Steve grew up in the West End and was a member of the first graduating class of Bristol Central High School in 1960. He continued his education at CCSU to become a teacher in the business department at Plainville High School. He received his Master’s degree at the University of Hartford and his 6th year certificate at UConn.

Steve taught in Plainville for 35 years and coached there and continued during retirement until recently. He loved competition. He enjoyed family gatherings, Italian food, thoroughbred horse racing, especially at Saratoga, golf, bowling, travel, and helping friends and family with their tax returns. Steve was a Yankee and UConn Girls Basketball fan. He felt both teams exemplified great sportsmanship and talent.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Collinsville for 40 years and a member of the Prince Thomas of Savoy Society in Avon.

Besides his wife Ann, who he met in high school, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Dawn Guerriero, and her partner Bev Lowden of Seymour, his beloved daughter, Denise Hewitt, and her husband Rich of England, and his beloved grandson, Robby Keefrider. Steve is also survived by his brother, Anthony Guerriero and his wife Shirley, his sister, Rita Guerriero, his brother-in-law, Francis V. Tracy Jr., and his wife Anne and his brother-in-law, Mike Tracy and his wife Betty. He was predeceased by his sisters, Carmela Norton and Domenica Marseglia. Steve was proud of his family, his extended family, and his friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (Dec. 13) at 11:00am in St. Patrick Church, Collinsville followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, Collinsville. All are kindly asked to meet directly at church. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to St. Patrick Church, 50 Church St., Collinsville, CT 06019 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
