Canton Obituary: Virginia McMahon, 92

Condolences to her family and friends.

Virginia Florence McMahon, nee Hurlbut, “Minnie “ age 92, a loving wife and sister, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

Ginny was born in Winsted to the late Lester and Florence (Beach) Hurlbut. She grew up in Winchester Center, graduated from Gilbert School and went on to study at the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1948. Ginny lived much of her later life in Avon, working for the Red Cross in Farmington. For the last six years she lived in Canton with her younger sister Eunice who predeceased her by exactly one year..

Ginny was a very active 92 year old. She practiced Tai Chi every Thursday, drove and bowled right up until her hospitalization this January 2016. Her team the Turtles won the summer 2015 league finals. Ginny had been bowling in the Sportsters League at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks for over 25 years.

Ginny is survived by her sibling Philip Hurlbut and wife Marion (Harding) Hurlbut, her sister-in-law Jean (Meyers) Hurlbut and numerous nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband John McMahon. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Dorothy Ryan, Ken Hurlbut, Frances Roberts and Elmer Hurlbut, Larry Hurlbut and Eunice McMahon.

A memorial service at the Second Congregational Church in Winsted is planned for Spring 2016.
