
William Edward Gimignani, 92, of Canton, beloved companion for many years of Frances Hoffnagle, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017.
Born in Torrington, son of the late, Ali and Catherine (Obijinski) Gimignani; he was raised in Torrington and Wethersfield. Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country on Iwo Jima during WWII. A member of the Iwo Jima survivors, Bill was very proud of his military service.
Upon returning home, he was employed by the Cheshire Reformatory, after 37 years he retired as Deputy Warden. Bill loved nature, especially hunting and fishing. He fished all over the world including on three different continents. He also loved music, particularly the Opera and he enjoyed collecting art, especially wildlife pieces.

He loved his family and cherished spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends over coffee. Recently he was honored as the Veteran of the Month by Senator Kevin Witkos.
Besides his companion of many years, he leaves his daughter; Susan G. Lukas of NY, NY, his granddaughters; Katie Lukas (Michael Gammon) and Carly Lukas (Alex Philips), his five great-grandsons; Jasper Lukas Gammon, Finnegan Lukas Gammon, Malcom Lukas Gammon, Nigel Lukas Philips and Liam Lukas Philips. He also leaves Frances’ son Michael Hoffnagle. He was predeceased by his wife Maria Gimignani.

Bill’s family will receive friends Thursday December 28, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, 1 p.m. at Carmon’s in Avon followed by burial with Military Honors in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
