Canton OK's Large Housing/Commercial Development
The plan would build multi-family housing units in three buildings, along with a retail/commercial component.
CANTON, CT — The town's top land-use board earlier this month said "yes" to a large development that would increase both housing and retail options in Canton.
With two separate 7-0 votes, the Canton Planning and Zoning Commission at a special meeting on Jan. 10 approved site plans for both housing and retail components of a three-building project on Dowd Avenue.
In addition, the PZC also approved permits allowing for earthwork and grading operations at the sites, which would be at 38-42 Dowd Ave.

The property is owned by Francis A. Zacchera, with the applicant being Phil Doyle, principal of LADA P.C., which is developing the site, according to meeting minutes.
The area is zoned for the Canton Village Design District.

Plans call for the three buildings to feature 54 total "multi-family dwelling units" along with, possibly, up to 6,000 square feet of commercial space below
Before the PZC vote, the commission hosted a lengthy public hearing on all aspects of the project, with many testifying to having technical issues and others expressing concern for the project's impact on police coverage, schools and traffic.
The hearing was well over four hours long on Jan. 10, with the PZC finally deciding the applications and adjourning the meeting at 11:45 p.m.
