Canton Cold-Weather Warming Centers Opened

CANTON, CT — The short-but-nasty cold snap predicted came as anticipated and the Town of Canton has warming centers open for folks to dodge the deep freeze.

According to the town, the Canton Community Center and the Canton Public Library were opened as warming centers as of Thursday and were slated to be open "for the next several days."

Temperatures are dipping into the single digits, with wind chills approaching double digits below zero.

The Canton Public Library area, 40 Dyer Ave., will be open: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Canton Community Center's senior and social services area will be open for the same time periods, according to town officials

"Please come prepared with anything that you may need during the day (i.e. food, water and medication)," wrote the town. "Water is available in the building via fountains."

The town said service dogs are welcome but the town cannot accommodate house pets, with folks reminded to never leave a pet in a vehicle.
