CANTON, CT — Local police Friday said the town's police communications center renovation is close to completion, with the town moving into the 21st Century as far as emergency communications are concerned.

"We are excited to announce that the renovations to the Canton Police Department’s Communication Center are nearly completed," wrote the Canton Police Department Friday.

"The police communications center is responsible for answering all routine and emergency calls from citizens of the town as well as dispatching police, fire, medical, and public works personnel where needed."

The project was funded by an Urban Grant from the State of Connecticut awarded to the town in July 2022 after a lengthy submission and selection process.

"With this grant, we were able to upgrade and replace large portions of our existing public safety radio system including outdated and no longer supported parts," wrote police.

"We were also able to replace our dispatch console furniture as well as update the communications center room including new flooring, paint, lighting, and various electrical and security improvements."
