Canton Pegged to Recieve About $31k in PILOT Grants

Canton is scheduled to receive about the same amount in PILOT grants in coming fiscal years

Gov. Dannel Malloy unveiled estimates for municipal state aid that would come in the form of payment in lieu of taxes and tribal grants for years to come.

PILOT grants are given to municipalities who would otherwise lose out on tax revenue for property that is owned by the state, colleges and hospitals.

However, the program hasn’t always been fully-funded. For example, New Haven would receive $10.3 million for fiscal year 2015, but only received just over $5 million, according to the Yale Daily News.

“There is also a proportionate reduction of PILOT totals to the amount of the appropriation in any year in which funding is insufficient,” is written in budget documents.

Avon received an estimated $31,604 in PILOT grants due to state-owned property and $23,360 from the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund Grant for fiscal year 2015.

Those amounts would change to $31,365 and $23,952 in fiscal years 2016 and 2017.
