Canton Runners Qualify for State Open Cross Country Championships
The Warrior boys placed second in Class SS to advance to the Open next Friday; a Canton girl also made it as an individual.

Canton High School will be competing in the State Open boys cross country championships next Friday, thanks to its second-place finish in the Class SS meet Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester.
Haddam-Killingworth blew away the competition in the team standings, but Canton placed three runners in the top 35 to compile 147 points, three better than third-place Coginchaug.

The top two teams in each of the six classes make it into the Open, as do the top 12 individuals in each class plus the 30 best times overall that finished out of the top 12.
Jake Whittingslow led Canton by placing sixth. Cameron Neeley (20th) and Zachary Oliver (34th) also ran well for the Warriors.

On the girls’ side, Canton just missed out on a team berth, placing third out of 19 teams. Emily Briggs will be competing at the State Open as an individual, thanks to her 11th-place showing.
