Canton Selectmen Seek Input On Power Plan Tax Deal

CANTON, CT — Locals will be able to weigh in Wednesday on a proposal regarding tax breaks for the developer of a small, hydroelectric power station along the Farmington River in town.

The Canton Board of Selectmen will host a public hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. in Room F at the Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave., Canton.

The meeting will be a hybrid format in that people will be able to view and participate in the public hearing remotely or in-person at the Canton Community Center.

The purpose of the public hearings will be to take comments on the following:

• Shall the Town of Canton enter into a long-term agreement with Canton Hydro LLC to set the annual rate of municipal taxes that Canton Hydro shall pay to the Town of Canton for the hydro facility located in Collinsville on the Farmington River.

Once the hearing is closed, Canton selectmen could decide on the deal afterward.
