Canton Traffic Chaos: Crash Closes Route 44; Downed Poles, Wires Reported Elsewhere
Route 44 and portions of Wright and Bunker Hill roads are closed in Canton, with at least one of the closure attributed to a crash.
CANTON, CT — Multiple roads are closed in Canton early Tuesday due to downed utility poles and wires, according to local police and the state Department of Transportation.
The Canton Police Department said Wright Road and a portion of Bunker Hill Road are closed because power poles and wires are down across the roadway.
Police did not indicate a reason for these closures.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Transportation reported that Route 44, or Albany Turnpike, at Bristol Drive is closed because of a crash involving a vehicle and utility pole.
The crash was reported at about 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Current closures include:
- Route 44/Albany Turnpike at Bristol Drive: Closed because of a vehicle-versus-pole crash, according to the DOT.
- Wright Road: Closed between Ann Lane and Timbercrest Drive because of downed poles and wires.
- Bunker Hill Road: Closed near the end of the road, between No. 160 and the intersection with Wright Road, because of downed poles and wires.
Canton police said detour signs, road-closed signs, and barricades are in place.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the affected areas and use alternate routes.
Authorities did not immediately provide an estimated reopening time or information about possible injuries.
