Canton To Vote On New Firehouse

Voters will weigh in next month on whether the town should spend $5.4 million on a new firehouse.

CANTON, CT — Taxpayers will weigh in on Nov. 2 whether the town should spend $5.4 million for a new firehouse, according to The Hartford Courant. Town officials have argued that the River Road firehouse in Collinsville needs to be replaced as it is small and outdate.

The firehouse was built in the early 1970s. Bigger trucks that the department purchased barely fit in the building. Some EMTs sleep there on the overnight shift, but the firehouse wasn't built with sleeping quarters.

A new firehouse would be about 50 percent larger.
