Canton Voters Flex Democratic Muscle, OK Deficit Fixes
Voters at a special town meeting last month said 'yes' to two fiscal transfers that helped alleviate deficits in Canton spending.

CANTON, CT — As expected, Canton voters recently approved two motions that amounted to some fiscal housekeeping to ensure past budgets are properly funded.
At a special town meeting on Oct. 11 that only took 14 minutes, voters unanimously approved via a voice vote taking funds out of the town's undesignated fund balance — essentially surplus funds — and applying them to two separate portions of the 2022-23 fiscal year town budget.
In one budget transfer, voters took $275,871 from the undesignated fund balance and moved it to the general fund to cover various deficits in the budget.

Meanwhile, they also transferred $181,559 from the undesignated fund balance to cover deficits in emergency medical services special revenue.
Both moves were previously endorsed by Canton's finance board and board of selectmen.
