Canton Woman Charged With Section 8 Fraud: Prosecutors

CANTON, CT — A Canton woman has been charged with defrauding the federal Section 8 housing program, according to a statement from prosecutors. Donna Carney, 66, was charged with theft of government property.

Carney pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $50,000 bond.

According to prosecutors, from 2004 to 2019, Carney failed to report that she was married to her landlord and therefore had an interest in the home where she lived. She also failed to report other people living in the home and falsely claimed that unauthorized residents were live-in aides, according to prosecutors.

If convicted, Carney faces up to 10 years in prison.
