Chris Herren Rocks Farmington Valley High School Assemblies and Public Presentation

The Wide Open Charity Golf Tournament Committee and Canton Valley Dental invited ex-NBA player Chris Herren to speak to three high schools.

The Wide Open Charity Golf Tournament Committee, in support of the high schools’ substance abuse programs invited Chris Herren, a former NBA point guard for the Celtics, to speak to three high schools in the Farmington Valley area last week. He spoke at Northwestern Regional High School and Lewis Mills High School on Tuesday May 26th. On Wednesday May 27th he spoke at Canton High School and held a community presentation which was open to the public in the evening. The response was overwhelming from both the students and the public as Chris Herren’s honesty and openness revealed his soul-wrenching story of how drugs and alcohol contributed to the loss of his basketball career, and the dire effect his addiction had on his family and personal life.

Chris opened his presentation to questions from the students and the public. Although he does not claim to have all the answers, he insists that communication with your children and involvement in their lives is extremely important. He feels children need to be comfortable with who they are to avoid using drugs and alcohol in order to “fit in.”

Dr. Matthew Keefe, of Canton Valley Dental and the Wide Open Committee would like to thank Chris Herren for all his efforts in enlightening the public on the growing substance abuse problems among the teenage population.
