Classic Candy Champion Crowned At Canton Library, See Who Won?
Canton Public Library visitors sampled 11 retro candies, with a narrow victory among 43 'judges' awarded to one classic brand.
CANTON, CT — Canton Public Library visitors took a trip down candy-memory lane this week, sampling 11 retro treats and voting for their favorites.
A total of 143 people participated in the library's Retro Candy Tasting on Monday, Aug. 10, with five tasters unable to settle on just one favorite.
Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles narrowly claimed the top spot, receiving 27.5 votes and edging Gustaf's Strawberry Laces, which finished with 27.

Hershey's Kisses and Hubba Bubba tied with 14 votes each, followed by Mike and Ike with 13. Candy Blocks and Circus Peanuts each received 10 votes.
Boston Baked Beans received seven votes, Tootsie Rolls received six, Satellite Wafers received five, andChick-O-Stick earned 4.5 votes.

The tasting also provided some first-time candy experiences.
According to the library, many children said they had never tried a piece of bubble gum before, while Satellite Wafers proved to be among the more divisive treats.
