Canton Public Library kicks off its Annual Winter Music Series on Sunday, February 5 with a concert by Lara Herscovitch, Connecticut’s State Troubadour for 2009 and 2010. The concert begins at 2:00 PM.
Herscovitch is a singer-songwriter who has captivated audiences with her blend of acoustic/folk, blues, Latin, jazz, and pop. Reviewers have noted the beauty of her voice and her lyrics. Her music has been called “soulful,” “intelligent,” and “captivating.” In addition to her work as a professional musician, she has been active in social work and public policy, with an MSW from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She has worked in Latin America, Asia, and the U.S. on behalf of disadvantaged individuals, with an emphasis on education, community development, and juvenile justice. Her passion for social justice finds its way into her original music.
Lara was raised in New York and currently lives in Connecticut. Her music is available on several CD’s: Through a Frozen Midnight Sky (2009), Juror Number 13 (2006), There (2002), and Sin Tierra (2000). Her songs can also be heard on her website: www.laramarecords.com.
