Familiar Face Has New Role At Canton Town Hall

Canton's board of selectmen unanimously appointed a new town clerk following the recent resignation of the prior one.

CANTON, CT — Canton has a new town clerk following the departure of the town's previous clerk for a position in Wethersfield.

The Canton Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Sept. 9 to appoint Maureen Frink as town clerk, effective Sept. 17.

Canton First Selectman Kevin Witkos made the motion to appoint Frink, which was seconded by Selectman Tim LeGeyt. The board approved the appointment 5-0.

Frink had recently joined the town as an assistant town clerk.

During the Canton Board of Selectmen's Aug. 26 meeting, Canton Chief Administrative Officer Mark Penney reported that Frink had been hired for the assistant clerk position and that Town Clerk Tracy Morrocco had resigned to become the town clerk for Wethersfield.

Frink now oversees an office responsible for maintaining many of Canton's official records and providing a variety of services to residents.

It maintains and preserves land records, maps, and vital records, including birth, marriage, and death certificates.

It also issues marriage, dog, hunting and fishing licenses; files trade name certificates; records military discharges; and provides notary services.

The office also has responsibilities related to elections and maintains official town documents, including Canton's Charter, ordinances, and meeting minutes.

It assists residents with voter registration in coordination with the Canton Registrars of Voters.

As registrar of vital statistics, the office issues vital records and permits and maintains those records in accordance with state law.
