Free Lecture/Performance on "Roots" Music Comes to Canton Library
Percussionist/author Craig Harris presents "Unraveling America's Musical Roots: A Participatory Performance"
On Saturday, September 29, at 2:30 p.m., Canton Public Library is the place for “Unraveling America’s Musical Roots: A Participatory Performance with Craig Harris.” Combining archival audio, rare film, well-researched storytelling, and collective music-making, Mr. Harris, a master percussionist, educator, and author, will lead an exciting, free musical journey. We’ll visit old-time Appalachian fiddlers and bluegrass banjo players and cover Americana experimenters and beyond. Mr. Harris is author of The Band: Pioneers of Americana Music (2014, 2017); Heartbeat, Warble and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music (2016); and the latest, Bluegrass, Newgrass, Old-time, and Americana Music (May 2018), and his expertise is evident. Let yourself be immersed in an acoustic experience exploring the creative history of American “roots” music.
