How Does Canton Stack Up Against Similar Communities?

Connecticut Magazine ranks all 169 communities in the state based on five core categories, grouping them based on median household income.

Connecticut Magazine has come out with its annual “Rating the Towns” list. The ratings, published in its November issue, group the state’s many communities by median home value, ranking towns that have similar resources.

The magazine explains that in the past, when they rated towns by population, a city like Bridgeport was being measured against a town like Greenwich, which in reality are two very different communities.

  • Education
  • Civic Engagement
  • Economy
  • Crime
  • Leisure and Culture

Now, how did Canton fare when compared to similar towns? For starters, the town is grouped with communities where the median home value is $325,000 or more, with that value being $340,000 for Canton. A total of 34 towns made it into this category.

Here’s how Canton was ranked in the following categories:

  • Leisure and Culture: 16
  • Economy: 28
  • Crime: 22
  • Civic Engagement: 12
  • Education: 16

The magazine notes, “If this group proves anything about Connecticut, it’s the obvious: That if you spend more than $1 million for a home, then chances are you’re going to wind up in a pretty good place to live.”
