How Historic a Town is Canton?

A look at Canton locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There are over 90,000 sites in the United States listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Connecticut lays claim to 1,597 of them, with three located within the town of Canton.

The Collinsville Historic District on Route 179 was the first to achieve the national designation on June 23, 1976. The most recent was the Town Bridge over the Farmington River, designated on Aug. 5, 1999.

The other entry on the list of Canton’s official Historic Places is the Canton Center Historic District, roughly along Barbourtown, E. Mountain, Humphrey, West, and W. Mountain Rds., which was honored on Oct. 7, 1997.
