Human Remains Found Near Canton Hiking Trail

CANTON, CT — The remains of a human body were discovered Sunday afternoon along a trail in a wooded area near Red Fox Run, according to police.

The discovery was reported to police at 2:10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers determined the unidentified body had been deceased for a significant period of time.

The Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad is assisting Canton police with an investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said.

In a notice posted on its Facebook page, Canton police stated "there is no threat to the public."
