Lawmaker Bags Groceries In Canton To Fight Hunger
The special event at a Canton supermarket benefitted food insecurity charities in Avon, Canton and New Hartford.

CANTON, CT — One lawmaker was put to work Tuesday to ensure others don't go hungry.
State Sen. Lisa Seminara, R-Avon, was seen bagging groceries at a Canton supermarket, all part of ShopRite's “Help Bag Hunger” event.
The goal was to raise awareness of the fight against hunger in local communities.

"Help Bag Hunger" was a fundraiser to help local organizations like Gifts of Love in Avon, the Avon Food Bank, the Canton Food Bank, and Hands of Grace Food Pantry in New Hartford.
Volunteers bagged groceries at the store as part of the event, with proceeds benefitting charities that battle food insecurity.

“Food insecurity is a serious issue throughout our towns and throughout Connecticut,” said Seminara, a member of the human services and aging committees as well as the committee on children. “That’s why events like ‘Help Bag Hunger’ are so important. This enables the community to step up in ways big and small to help neighbors in need.”
She thanked the staff and management at ShopRite of Canton for their role in the event as well as volunteers and the community for donating their time and money to the cause.
Seminara serves the 8th Senate District towns of Norfolk, Hartland, Canton, Simsbury, New Hartford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Colebrook and parts of Granby, Harwinton and Torrington.
