Local Legislators Hosting Fraud Prevention Forum

The free luncheon event in Canton is slated for Nov. 9.

State Rep. Tim LeGeyt (R-17) and State Sen. Kevin Witkos (R-8) will be hosting a fraud prevention forum to help seniors learn how to avoid being victims of fraud and scams. Guest speakers from AARP will present The Con-Artist’s Playbook, a Deep Look into the Mind of Scam Artists. Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan Harris will also attend.

The event will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.., at the Canton Senior Center, 40 Dyer Avenue, Collinsville.

The Con-Artist’s Playbook presents an inside look at how scammers think and can help enable persons to protect themselves and their families against identity theft and fraud. This program was developed based on hundreds of undercover fraud tapes and hours of interviews with victims and con artists. It demonstrates common strategies scammers use and provides tools for use in defense of common con-artist tricks. Guests attending the event will receive a free copy.
