Major Road Race To Close Canton Town Hall Lot, Prompt Traffic Delays
Canton warns of closures and delays this weekend as the Collinsville Classic 10K marks its 10th year.
CANTON, CT — Runners from across Connecticut are expected to converge on Canton Sunday morning for the 10th annual Collinsville Classic 10K, prompting a temporary parking closure and traffic delays in town.
The Canton Town Hall parking lot will be closed from midnight to noon on May 3 to accommodate the race, which runs from 8:30 to 11 a.m., according to event organizers.
While the Rails-to-Trails path and local roads will remain open, officials said motorists should expect delays and detours as runners pass through portions of the course.

The point-to-point race begins in Burlington and follows local roads before connecting to the multi-use trail along the Farmington River, finishing in downtown Collinsville.
The Hartford Marathon Foundation, which organizes the race, described the course as flat and shaded, with scenic river views.

Race officials said ongoing trail construction will not affect the event.
Staff are coordinating with town officials to ensure safe passage through any impacted sections.
Participants will receive a technical shirt and a finisher medal.
Post-race activities include food service in the finish area.
The event also supports community initiatives.
Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut is the designated charity partner, with opportunities for donations and volunteer participation.
In addition, nonperishable food donations will be collected near Canton Town Hall to benefit the Canton Food Bank.
Organizers are also introducing a new membership program in 2026 offering optional perks for frequent participants.
Officials advise residents to plan on Sunday morning and allow extra travel time in areas along the race route.
