Town officials confirmed that the mini-golf business received a temporary certificate of occupancy on Friday. It is one of two businesses the center will incorporate.
Kevin Ebner of Harwinton, another partner in the business, said he hopes people will come in, check the place out, buy some gift certificates and perhaps book a party room. People can also sign up for golf leagues, which will start at the sister business, Year Roundz Golf Club, in January.
Maher said those working at the facility scrambled to get everything finished and did not advertise the opening this weekend. However, he said there are advantages to a slower, "soft" opening.
"This is the best way to work the kinks out," he said.
Getting the facility open has been a longer process than the owners originally hoped.
The zoning commission approved the business in April but for various reasons construction didn’t take off until early September.
They had also hoped for a Thanksgiving week opening but didn’t quite make it. Now it should be just two to three weeks before Year Roundz Golf Club is also open.
It will feature high-definition simulators, a sports bar, corporate events and more.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Maher said about this weekend’s opening of the mini golf side of the facility. “It’s been a lot of work. It’s another hurdle but we’re getting there. The finish line is in sight.”
