No Exact Timeframe For Closing of Chapter 1’s Canton Showroom

Date dependent on various factors.

While Chapter 1 is closing its Canton showroom, no exact date has been set, owner Ron Smith said.

A few factors will play into the timeframe, he said. One scenario would involve the store selling down its inventory enough to easily move remaining items to the company's "" at 121 Talcott Road in West Hartford.

However, the company is selling the 5,800 square-foot Canton building for $1,295,000. If someone should buy — or alternatively lease — the building at 315 Albany Turnpike (Route 44), it could affect the closing.

"If we're forced to leave, we'll be going faster," Smith said.

Smith said the Canton showroom opened at the end of 2004 and the closing, while disappointing, is a sign of the times.

The economy did a number on us," he said. "We're sad to close the store but we have to do what we need to do."

During the final sale, merchandise is 50 to 70 percent off.
