Oh what fun it is to ride a no-horse open sleigh...

Im enjoying this new habit I picked up last year, running. I am on different running boards and one challenge out there is the RunnersWorld Winter Challenge, where you vow to put in at least 1 mile of running every day from Thanksgiving till New Years. Im nursing a sore Achillies, so I didnt get my run in until late tonight, but with a few minutes to spare, I did.

After running 2+ miles, I head over to our 24 hr Walgreens to pick up my photo order and then head home. Thats where the night started getting interesting. Some big animal crossing the intersection on Route 44. What is that a bear? Nope a horse. Then another. The smaller one seemed to be all brown with a black mane and white hooves, the other was taller also brown and black but had a patch of white on its chest. They were so beautiful, for a moment I forgot, this isnt right.

Called the Canton Police, and followed the animals slowly at a distance in an attempt to warn other cars. Somehow, I couldnt find my emergency blinker switch. The following pursuit seemed to last a long time, even though I know it was brief. As the horses slowed down, I pulled over in attempt to catch them, I am a runner after all. All I had for rope was some tie-down straps. After a failed attempt a kind lady pulled up and offered to help. Now there were two of us to warn cars. A patrolman came out and I almost think the blinking lights calmed, or stunned, the horses for a moment. I handed him one of the tie-downs I had pulled out of my trunk. Twice he came very close to having one on a lead, but as one would move, the other horse would leave as well. Finally they were corralled off 44 and into one of the shopping centers. Spoke to the patrolman who said that EPA(?) and someone else were on their way.

I had nothing better to do, but I also didnt want to be in their way. And since my only horse experience could fit inside a week, didnt think I could help much more at that point.

This is just one of the many, many reasons I love living in a small town. See what you miss by sleeping at 1am?
