One Person Killed in Head-On Crash in Canton: UPDATE
A second person was seriously injured in the accident, according to police.

CANTON, CT — One person was killed after being involved in a head-on collision on Route 44 near Breezy Hill Road Saturday in Canton, police said. The accident occurred near the New Hartford line.
Police said Canton Emergency Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a two car accident on Route 44 near Breezy Hill Road. Arriving emergency personnel located a complete road closure of Route 44 and two significantly damaged motor vehicles involved in a traffic accident, police said. Each vehicle was only occupied by the respective drivers and there were no other passengers in either vehicle, police said.
Emergency medical care was initiated for the occupants of both vehicles. One of the drivers was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital for serious injuries, police said. No driver information will be released pending notification to family, police said.

The roadway remains closed at this time for an in depth examination of the scene, evidence collection and scene documentation, police said.
Canton Police Department was assisted by Canton Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance, New Harford Volunteer Ambulance, State Police, Lifestar and the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team, police said.
