Police Investigating Weekend Graffiti

Stop Signs, benches, walls targeted with letters that match name of L.A. hip-hop collective.

Police are investigating a rash of graffiti from this past weekend, much of it on street signs in the vicinity of , Millennium Field and .

The letters OF were painted on numerous signs and on a few walls and elsewhere was the moninker OFEGKTA. According to numerous Web sites, Odd Future, sometimes call Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, is a collective of hip-hop artists in Los Angeles. Officials have not yet commented on specifics.

Police Chief Christopher Arciero said police are investigating the graffiti, will hopefully catch those responsible and will increase patrols in the area.

"The material used to get the paint off affects the sign," he said.

He said the department has found 22 that were marked, including 8 stop signs. That includes signs on East Hill Road, Simonds Avenue, Old Canton Road, Colony Road and at the high school.

To replace the signs, remove writing from some stone walls and repaint a bench near "Little Mills Pond," he estimated the cost to the town at $1,138. Labor is factored into the estimate but it does not include the Little League sign at Millennium Field, he added. Some more investigation is needed to see of the graffiti there can be removed without affecting the sign, he said, adding that it often depends on the material used.

Martin said the town often makes its own signs but will order many of these to try and remedy the situation as quickly as possible. He's hoping it's all done within a week.

"Time is of the essence," Martin said.

At least some of the graffiti had been painted after Friday evening but prior to the Canton Little League games Saturday morning, when the attached photos were taken.
