As Practice Opens, a Look at Canton Fall State Championships
The first official day of practice for fall sports is Aug. 25; Patch looks back at state titles won by Canton teams in autumns past.
CANTON, CT — Thursday marks the official opening of practice for fall high school sports, and the first day gives every team hope and optimism that perhaps a state championship is in the cards.
A total of 14 Canton teams have captured state titles in fall sports in the past:
- field hockey (8): 1999 (S), 1998 (S), 1997 (S), 1995 (S), 1992 (S), 1991 (S), 1986 (S), 1985 (S)
- boys soccer (4): 2003 (S), 1995 (S), 1981 (S), 1973 (S)
- boys cross country (1): 2010 (SS)
- girls cross country (1): 1976 (S)
