Prepare For Disaster At Canton Forum
Canton emergency management officials are hosting a free forum on Tuesday, Sept. 17, on how residents can prepare for the unthinkable.
CANTON, CT — A group of town volunteers one hopes to never have to meet will host a special meeting next week for that very possibility.
The Town of Canton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and its emergency management department are hosting a special forum on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Canton Community Center's multi-purpose room, 40 Dyer Ave., Canton.
It will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

There, volunteers and officials will host a free program for National Emergency Preparedness Month, which is in September.
The topic will be how folks can prepare themselves and their families for any emergency, whether it be a natural disaster or a man-made emergency.

The program will introduce residents to their CERT team, as well as the town's emergency management officials.
A CERT team is a group of volunteers specially trained for disasters and they would fan out in the community should disaster strike, aiding officials in recovery and response.
They will go over some of the tips approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and also conduct a question-and-answer session.
