CANTON, CT — Work to beautify the riverside trail in Canton is finished and when the weather gets better after winter, more bicyclists, walkers and joggers will be able to enjoy it.

The Town of Canton Wednesday said split-rail fencing and pedestrian bridge upgrades are complete, crediting the contractors in the process.

"The contractors did a great job beautifying the trail with hardwood fencing and replacing the old deck with new pressure-treated timbers," wrote the town.

Of course, Wednesday was the first day of winter, but it didn't stop local officials from urging folks to get out and enjoy a chilly jaunt at the trail by the Farmington River.

"We hope you enjoy using the trail and bridge this holiday season," wrote local officials.
