CANTON, CT — Organizers of one of Canton's biggest summertime traditions — the 42nd annual Lobsterfest — are warning the community about a scam where the event is being named.

Sponsored by the Canton Volunteer Fire Co. Inc. on Canton Springs Road, Lobsterfest is a major fundraiser for the department and is a community tradition involving the luscious oceanic crustacean.

Unfortunately, organizers said, a scam artist is asking for money from vendors on social media platforms regarding Lobsterfest.

The event is slated to take place at the fire department on Aug. 16 and 17, with a full lobster menu, music, fun, and events for the children.

Event organizers said the festival doesn't request money from vendors in advance and anyone doing so is doing it illegally.

"We do not have the opportunity for vendors nor will we ask for your money in advance of the event," wrote the CVFC. "Tickets for the lobster dinners are purchased the day of the event."

They're asking that vendors not respond to any money requests.

"It is a scam and is not affiliated with the 42nd Annual Lobsterfest," wrote the CVFC.
