Scouts Donate Funds for Fuel Bank

Bank, town: Need is still great despite mild winter

Members of Tiger Pack 77, Den 10 recently made a donation to the Canton Emergency Fuel Bank. The scouts collected $1 bills from willing participants, including students at Cherry Brook Primary School

Four scouts from the troop provided an envelope with the money to Michael Langer, vice president and comptroller at Collinsville Savings Society, the bank that holds the account for the fund.

"That's a very good thing you did," Langer told the scouts. "It really helps people out.

The fuel bank began in 1976. The bank assists residents in need with oil deliveries or utility bills. Since July of 20111, it provided 60 families with more than $23,000 in assistance. No one has been turned away for lack of funds, Langer said. However, donations are needed, he said.
