The Show Always Goes On At Canton's Theater Company

The Farmington Valley Theater Co. in Canton has been putting on good, affordable shows since 2012.

Canton Town Hall is more than just the hub of local government in town, it is a main cultural hub for the performing arts scene in historic Collinsville and it is home to the Farmington Valley Stage Co.

CANTON, CT — For local yokels and gadflies, the goings on at any town hall — including Canton Town Hall — can, during some municipal meetings, pass for good theater.

But in Canton's entertainment district of historic Collinsville, Canton Town Hall is, quite literally, a good theater.

Inside the 4 Market St. municipal facility is a theater, stage, lights, and everything needed to put on a play.

That has been the case since 2012, when the late Howard Frisch and his business partner Ron Failbusch founded the stage company.

Their goal was to increase the area's access to the arts — even in the Farmington River Valley.

And, according to the theater company, providing affordable access to staged performances is a major charge for these actors and actresses.

Think of it as the working person's theater group.

"Our goals are to provide local audiences with quality, affordable live theater experiences, as well as to provide opportunities for anyone with interest in the theater to participate both on stage and/or behind the scenes," reads the group's charge.

The FVSC is just completing its 2023-24 season (September to June), with performances of Paul Slade Smith's "The Outsider," a "hilarious send-up of modern American politics," taking place in June.

Tickets are on sale now and cost a maximum of $28 for a reserved seat the day of the show, with lower prices available for general admission and advance ticket sales.

To inform area theater buffs and make it easier to purchase tickets, the FVSC utilizes an easy-to-use website, making it far from difficult to plan your trip to the theater in Canton.
