Suspects Steal Tools From Canton Hardware Store: Police

Store officials said two suspects tried to use fake credit card, then walked out with the merchandise.

CANTON, CT — Canton police are investigating an incident at a local hardware store in which suspects tried to buy power tools with a fake credit card and then walked out with the tools.

According to Larsen Ace Hardware's Facebook page, two people came in at about 6:30 p.m. Monday night into the 220 Albany Turnpike, Canton, store.

Store officials said when the credit card the suspects were using didn't work at the register, the suspects simply walked out of the store with the merchandise.

"The police were immediately notified," reads a statemenet from Larsen Ace Hardware. "At no time was any weapon shown or used while in or around the hardware store and no one was hurt during the incident."

The store asked members of the public to "refrain from spreading rumors about this theft" and call local police if they have any information.

The Canton Police Department said anyone with information on the incident should call the department at 860-693-0221.
