Upscale Kitchen Retailer Returning To Canton After Revival
The chain, which has stores in 20 states nationally is opening a store at The Shops of Farmington Valley.

CANTON, CT — A national retailer specializing in upscale kitchen and culinary goods, along with immersive cooking programs, is expanding and coming back to Canton.
The Shops at Farmington Valley, a major shopping destination on Route 44 in Canton, announced Friday that "Sur La Table" will be expanding its national footprint with new store openings throughout 2023, including Canton.
No specific date for the opening was announced, but "Sur La Table" officials indicated a spring opening for the Seattle, Wash.-based chain.

"Since 1972, Sur La Table has become the leading retail destination for those passionate about cooking and entertaining and the expansion of the brand's retail business is attributed to the brand’s evolution over the last five decades," wrote the company Friday.
The expected return marks a revival of the brand in Canton, as Sur La Table actually closed amid the 2020 pandemic due to the ownership company's bankruptcy, according to the store's current owners.

Originally at The Shops in 2004, the store brand was bought out by Marquee brands and CSG Generation amid the 2020 bankruptcy, company representatives said.
The return to Canton and other areas of the country is a byproduct of a better-than-expected rebound in sales and company growth, company officials said.
Sur La Table, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, currently has 59 retail locations in over 20 states nationwide.
Canton would be the store's only Connecticut location.
Sur La Table's brick-and-mortar expansion comes as many retailers are scaling back store offerings in favor of online commerce.
“We are thrilled to continue to grow our retail business and to give our customers local storefronts to spark their innovation in the kitchen,” said Jordan Voloshin, chief executive officer of Sur La Table.
“By expanding our retail footprint strategically, we’ve targeted specific markets providing new and familiar communities with a retail destination that offers the 50 years of cooking expertise that the brand is known for.
"We are enthusiastic about returning to locations where Sur La Table has previously operated in, as well as entering new markets and reaching new customers across the country."
In addition to upscale kitchen goods and appliances, Sur La Table offers cooking classes, as well as in-store events and demonstrations
