Canton Taxes Could Skyrocket, What You Need To Know
Voters will head to the polls Tuesday in Canton to decide a budget 7 percent larger that could raise taxes by several hundred dollars.

CANTON, CT — Voters next week will decide a proposed town and school budget in Canton that will increase their taxes by 1.68 mills, potentially an amount equal to several hundred dollars.
Following Canton's annual town budget meeting, which was April 24, residents will decide a $46.75 million town/school budget at the polls on Tuesday, May 9.
The referendum will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave.

The combined town and school budget is 7 percent larger than current spending, necessitating the mill rate hike from 33.69 to 35.37.
For a home assessed at $300,000, taxes will increase by $504, meaning taxpayers will have to pay that much more than what their tax bill was a year ago.

For those who cannot make Tuesday's referendum, absentee ballots are available in the Canton Town Clerk's office at Canton Town Hall, 4 Market St., Collinsville.
