Officials Projecting 30-Percent Turnout in Primary
More than 1,000 had voted as of 5:30 p.m.

As of late afternoon Tuesday, town officials were projecting a turnout of approximately 30 percent. In all, 4,125 are eligible to vote in Tuesday's primary. As of 4:15 p.m., 871 had done so. By 5:30 p.m. the total was 1,007.

Voting in the much-touted primary was off to a slow start in Canton Tuesday.
As of 9 a.m., less than 200 people had voted and at noon, the number was 475. Shortly before 1 p.m. it was 538 and at 2 p.m. it was 632 — about 15 percent of those eligible.

A total of 4,125 are eligible to vote in today's primary, in which area Democrats and Republicans are picking their choice for a U.S. Senate race as well as the Fifth Congressional district. A list of candidates is available in this early Patch posting. Sample ballots are available here.
While the Canton numbers may be fairly low so far, it's been consistent, said election official Emil Huyghebaert.
"It's been a steady flow of people," he said.
