WEATHER UPDATE: 'Significant,' Long Duration Snowstorm to Hit Canton

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning late tonight through late Monday.

There is the potential for 8-12 inches of snow accumulation and a trace amount of ice.

The National Weather Service predicts that scattered light snow showers and flurries will develop through late afternoon and the snow will become steadier after midnight.

Periods of snow will be moderate to heavy on Sunday, Sunday night, Monday, and Monday night, the weather service states. This will be a long duration winter storm event and driving will be hazardous during this time period. Winds could also gust up to 40 miles per hour.

Tonight Snow. Low around 23. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Sunday Snow. High near 30. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday Night Snow. Low around 19. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Monday Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 27. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Monday Night A chance of snow, mainly before 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
